the road to hell is paved with good intentions

(dan with cucumbers!)

i made graham cracker brownies tonight.

also, what smells worse than a decomposing coyote? a rabbit found in a wet bag of grain. or blood meal (rendered blood of cow) with growing maggots. i moved those two things around today, and i also transplanted sweet peas and covered the kale.

something really noteworthy: i went to brookfield farms (one of the first CSA farms in new england) today and i was so amazed by the presence, organization, and humor of dan, the farm manager there. i basically swooned over and over again when he dove into the structure of all the programs and functions of their DBA (doing business as) brookfield farm. he had the most amazing hand motions and he knew how to talk about the weather and the right time for plants.

he told this great story about his strawberries. he read it was suppose to be 38 degrees last night, but went out at 4 in the morning to check on the strawberries. the thermometer said 39, but then he went to check back at 4:30 and it said 37. at 5 it said 35. by six it was 34.7 degrees. he took care of his strawberries. tonight they are covering them just in case.
